Today’s Classic Truck Finds 09/18/2023

Dodge sold a series of D/W series pickup trucks from 1960 to 1980 across three generations. In 1980, the trucks were renamed the Ram. The same basic design was kept throughout the production years until 1994 when a completely redesigned Ram was introduced. The D signified the 4×2 models, while the W signified the 4×4 models. In addition to being straight-sided beds (“Sweptline”), where the bed was the same width as the cab, the D series had also available the step-sided beds (“Utiline”), where the bed was narrower than the cab, with three different bed lengths: 6.5ft half-ton (D100), 8ft three-quarter ton (D100 and D200), and 9ft one-ton (D300). The 1970 D300 was part of the second half of the second generation which ran from 1965 to 1971.

Engines available was the popular Chrysler Slant-Six engine and a variety of V8 engines with both manual and automatic transmissions offered. Being a one ton, the D300 was well known for its ability to handle heavy loads and served as a workhorse for business and industry. The D300 chassis was also very popular for use by RV manufacturers.

Did you know that a 1970 D300 was used by Leatherface in the movie “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)” and a D300 tow truck was featured in the 2001 movie “Jeepers Creepers”?
