An Example of Classic Tailfin Design
For Sale: 1964 Cadillac De Ville
The 1964 Cadillac De Ville represents the final year of Cadillac’s second-generation design. It featured a sharp, bi-angular grille that extended into the body sides and a sleeker “fine‑blade” tailfin treatment, continuing a 17-year fin tradition.
Under the hood, Cadillac upgraded from the previous 390 cu in engine to a powerful 429 cu in V8, delivering 340 hp and enhanced low-end torque. Matched with the new Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission, the car achieved high performance—0–60 mph in roughly 8½ seconds and top speeds near 120 mph—placing it squarely in luxury-performance territory.
Inside and out, the 1964 De Ville showcased cutting‑edge features: the industry’s first thermostatic Comfort Control HVAC system, automatic headlamp dimming via Twilight Sentinel, power steering and brakes, power windows, and optional air conditioning.
Its roomy wheelbase (129.5″) and expansive body (223.5″ long) maintained Cadillac’s reputation for stately presence and passenger comfort. The model was offered in several body styles: two- and four-door hardtops, a six-window sedan, and for the first time, a convertible. 110,396 De Villes were produced in this record-breaking year, comprising about two-thirds of Cadillac’s total 1964 output.
