Starting in 1973, the third generation of C/K Chevy trucks were introduced (the “C” denotes two-wheel drive and the “K” denotes four-wheel drive). These were known as the Rounded-Line trucks, but were also given nicknames of box-body or square-body. This generation also saw all trucks having a leaf-spring rear suspension along with a newly designed chassis. Starting in 1978, the C/K truck was the first American full-size truck offering a diesel engine. Did you know that this generation also is the first generation to use the “Silverado” nameplate and is the longest produced version of the C/K line of Chevy trucks? Another interesting point of history is that the Rounded-Line trucks were the first generation of the C/K line to use computers and wind tunnels by engineers during their design.
