Today’s Classic Car Finds 04/18/2023

The Metropolitan was a subcompact economy automobile produced by the American company Nash from 1954 to 1962 across four series. The name Nash was dropped after the Nash company merged with the Hudson company in 1954 to form the American Motors Company (AMC). It was determined to be most cost-effective to produce the vehicle in England rather than the US. The Metropolitan was the first car to be marketed directly to women as a second family car in a two-car family to be used for errands such as shopping and ferrying children. The 1961 model year was part of the fourth series (1959-1962) which had a major redesign. Two body styles were offered: the two-door hardtop and the two-door convertible. The engine for this series was a 1.5L I4. The large number of sales over the Metropolitan’s lifetime helped to spur the development of the subcompact class of automobile from the Big Three American automakers.
