The Mustang, in a newly created class known as the pony cars, was produced by Ford beginning in 1964. With its attractive styling, many available options, and affordability made it a widely successful car selling over 1.3 million during the first three years of production. The 1968 is part of the first generation and was part of the second evolution during that generation with the models being given an overall facelift and roomier passenger and luggage space. The engine offerings were a variety of I6 and V8 engines as well as three main body styles. It was a 1968 GT that was the well-known car used by Steve McQueen in Bullitt.
