International started out as the International Harvester Company as a result of a 1902 merger between McCormick Harvesting Machine Company and Deering Harvester Company, along with three other smaller ag firms. The S-series was produced from 1977 to 2001 positioned between the Transtar and Paystar lines by merging the Loadstar and Fleetstar lines. These trucks had a wide range of uses like straight trucks, semis, vocational trucks, and severe-service usage trucks. They also came with many body and chassis configurations. The 2500 models were typically setup as 4×2 and 6×4. The 1978 was part of the first generation of the S-series model line (1978-1989).
