The Torino, named after the Italian city of Turin, was produced by Ford Motor Company across three generations from 1968 to 1976. Torino initially was the top trim model of the Fairlane and became its own model for the second generation that ran from 1970 to 1971. There were fourteen different model styles for 1971 based on the models of a two-door hardtop, fastback, convertible and a four-door sedan, hardtop, and station wagon. The 500 was a mid-level available as a two-door hardtop and fastback, four-door sedan and hardtop, and a four-door station wagon. Engine offerings were the 4.1L I6 as standard and several V8s ranging from 4.9L to 7.0L as options. A complete body design was made for this generation based on narrow centers with flared fenders called the coke bottle style and a redesign of the interior. There were 326,463 Torinos produced in 1971. A 1971 Torino 500 was used often in many TV shows and movies like “Dirty Harry”, “The French Connection”, “The Longest Yard”, “CHiPs”, and “Super 8”.
