Today’s Classic Car Finds 8/2/2022

The Grand Prix was produced by Pontiac from 1962 to 2002 (for coupes) and 1989 to 2008 (for sedans). The 1969 model was the beginning of the second generation of GPs. For this next generation, an all-new development was ordered. By using the same platform as the Tempest, Le Mans, and GTO, Pontiac was able to upgrade the body styling and interior design emphasizing a sportier look inside. Even though the wheelbase was extended two inches, the body was shrunk by four inches, designated as the G-body. DeLorean (head of Advanced Engineering at Pontiac) also wanted the Grand Prix to have the longest hood in the industry and Pontiac made sure that this was a well-publicized fact. It came as a two-door hardtop. A couple of new introductions for this year included a radio antenna embedded in the windshield and an optional heated glass rear window defogger. There were over 112,000 GPs sold this year.
