- The Chieftain is a car produced by Pontiac from 1949 to 1958 across three generations. It began with four model types: a sedan, sedan coupe, business coupe, and a deluxe convertible coupe. A station wagon option was added in 1952. The 1955 Chieftain was part of the second generation (1955-1957). This year saw a completely redesigned car from top to bottom with the most notable offering being the 4.7L Strato Stream V8 engine.
