The Corvette has been produced by Chevrolet since 1953 as a two-door, two-passenger sports car across eight generations (C1 to C8), with the eighth being the current generation. It is currently the only two-seat sports car produced by a major US auto manufacturer. The Corvette was named after the smallest class of maneuverable warships. It was originally introduced as a convertible and the coupe was added in 1963. The 1976 Corvette is part of the third (C3) generation (1968 to 1982). During this generation changes were made to the bumpers to meet safety standards and new emission rules resulted in decreased engine performance until towards the end of the generation. This year’s Corvette had ten color selections to choose from. The coupe with twin removable roof panels was the only body style available. There was a total of 46,558 1976 models made.
