International started out as the International Harvester Company as a result of a 1902 merger between McCormick Harvesting Machine Company and Deering Harvester Company, along with three other smaller ag firms. IH sold off the agricultural division in 1985 to Case and renamed the company Navistar International Corp. The International PayStar 5000 line consisted of extra heavy-duty trucks designed for construction use, dump trucks, cement mixers, oil-field trucks, firetrucks, and much more. The 5000 line was produced from 1972 through 2016 and consisted of three generations. It offered various models with 4×4, 6×4, and 6×6 arrangements and gasoline, mid-range diesel, and big-bore diesel engines.
