The B-series model line of trucks was produced by Mack Trucks from 1953 to 1966, replacing the L-series line. Having made over 127,000 units, the B model was one of Mack’s most successful and popular offerings, with many still in service today. It came in multiple styles from tractors and rigid trucks, delivery-style/bus options, and firetrucks. This model had available ten different gas engines from a 291 cu.in. all the way up to a 707 cu.in, along with a range of diesel options. In 1953, Mack introduced the famous Thermodyne open-chamber, direct-injection diesel engine, upping performance and fuel efficiency. Mack also gave us the more streamlined appearance this series is known for. An interesting bit of history: the 1956 Mack B-series trucks were employed to haul construction material across the Arctic Circle to construct the DEW (Distant Early Warning) Line to help alert the US during times of nuclear threats.
