Today’s Classic Car Finds 01/13/2023

The Nova SS was produced by Chevrolet across five generations from 1962 to 1979 and 1985 to 1988. The Nova was the top model offered of the Chevy II line through 1968 after which the Chevy II name was dropped and becoming just Nova through 1979. The model’s name of Chevy II was given because a name couldn’t be agreed upon. The Nova was declined because it didn’t start with a “C” but was used as the top model Chevy II. These cars were described as “maximum functionalism with thrift” when introduced by the Chevrolet GM. The 1964 model was part of the first generation of Chevy IIs. This generation came available in two-door and four-door sedans, convertibles, 2-door hardtops (Sport Coupes), and 4-door station wagons. There was also the 100 Series, 300 Series, and Nova 400 Series. The engines ranged from the inline-four up to a 5.36L V8. The 1964 model was the first year to have the V8 as an option. The SS (Super Sport) was new for the 1963 model year and was carried forward from there. It offered style and functional upgrades and was only available on the Sport Coupes and Convertibles 400 Series.
