The Land Cruiser is the longest production of four-wheel drive vehicle series produced by Toyota of Japan. Beginning in 1951, due to it’s reliability making it very popular, there have been more than 10 million Cruisers sold as of 2019. It has been produced in convertible, hardtop, station wagon, and cab chassis body styles. The history of the Land Cruiser began in 1941 during WW2 when Japan found an American Willys MB Jeep and ordered Toyota to develop a similar vehicle. After working on and improving on the models during the 40s, the vehicle was given the name “Land Cruiser” in 1951. In the FJ designation, the “J” stands for Jeep and the “F” indicates the engine type. There are two basic engines for the FJ series: the type F engine and the type 2F engine. There are numerous diesel configurations starting from a 3.0L. The 1976 Land Cruiser is part of the J40 series. A notable new offering for this year was the new front disc brakes.
