Today’s Classic Car Finds 06/12/2023

The Studebaker Champion, introduced in 1939, was a series of automobiles produced by the American automaker Studebaker Corporation across five generations ending in 1958.

The 1947 Studebaker Champion was part of the company’s first all-new model line after the war and was the start of the third generation. The design of the Champion underwent a complete overhaul, featuring a modern and streamlined appearance.

This generation showcased several innovative design elements, such as a new rear window, a sloping grille, and pontoon-style fenders. These design cues gave the car a sleek and futuristic look compared to its pre-war counterparts. The car featured a roomy interior and was available in multiple body styles, including two-door and four-door sedans, as well as a two-door coupe.

Under the hood, the Champion initially came with a 169.6 cubic inch (2.8-liter) inline-six engine. This engine produced around 80 horsepower. It was coupled with a three-speed manual transmission, although an optional overdrive unit was also available, providing better fuel efficiency at higher speeds.

The 1947 Studebaker Champion was well received by the public and helped Studebaker gain a strong foothold in the post-war market. Its attractive design, combined with its affordability and excellent fuel efficiency, made it a very popular choice.
