The luxury car Silver Shadow was produced by British car maker Rolls-Royce in two main versions from 1965 to 1980. It was offered in three body styles: the four-door saloon, the two-door saloon (1966), and the two-door convertible (1967). The Silver Shadow line ran from 1965 to 1976 and was the first Rolls to be built on a body/chassis construction that was all one unit. The car offered more passenger and luggage space even after reducing its size that was made possible by this all-in-one construction. Other new features were disc brakes and an independent rear suspension. A notable feature of the new line was the hydraulic self-levelling suspension and dual circuit braking system giving it its exceptional ride quality. Beginning in 1977, the car was renamed the Silver Shadow II with that line running until 1980 with the most notable enhancement being the rack and pinion steering. The bumpers were also changed from chrome to alloy and rubber to meet the safety standards in the US. The engine offerings were the 6.2L L410 V8 (1965-1970) and the 6.75L L410 V8 (1970-1980) with a 3-speed Turbo Hydromatic 400 automatic transmission. There was a total of 8,425 Silver Shadow IIs produced.
