Today’s Classic Car Finds 07/06/2023

The 1946 Packard Clipper marked Packard’s first full year of production after World War II, designated the 21st series. As a post-war model, the Clipper underwent a redesign with a more rounded and streamlined body styling. The front grille showcased vertical chrome bars, and the rear fenders integrated sleek taillights.

The Clipper targeted a wider range of customers with a more affordable price point, expanding Packard’s reach. The Clipper 6 was powered by a 245 cubic inch (4.0-liter) L-head straight-six engine paired with a three-speed manual transmission. The Clipper 8 boasted a 327 cubic inch (5.4-liter) L-head V8 engine, also paired with a three-speed manual transmission.

The offered body styles were the two-door club sedan and four-door touring sedan. Trim levels available for the Clipper 8 were the Standard, Deluxe, Super Clipper 8, and Custom Super Clipper 8. The Supers sat on a larger wheelbase.

A Packard Clipper 8 was featured in the well-known 1972 “The Godfather”, 1974 “Chinatown”, and 1997 “L.A. Confidential” movies.
