The Brigadier was a series of heavy-duty (class 7/8) trucks produced as the second generation of the H/J-series from 1977 to 1989 by General Motors. This series was in between the largest C/K trucks and the the heavier duty GMC General. The Brigadier came as both a straight truck and semi-tractor formats and was typically used in short hauling, vocational, and severe-servicing jobs. In 1966, GM split off the heavy-duty trucks from the medium-duty options and gave them a unique chassis and a new cab design. In the mid-1970s, GM began to stop using the alphanumeric system for naming and adopted a military system, using the names Brigadier, General, and TopKick. In 1988, with Volvo now owning GM, the Brigadier was re-release as the WhiteGMC Brigadier and then was retired at the end of 1989 after 23 years.
