The Suburban is produced by the Chevrolet division of GMC (General Motors Company) across twelve generations beginning in 1935 to the present. It is the world’s longest used auto nameplate. It has been sold under Chevrolet and GMC for each generation. For several generations, GMC has marketed it as the Yukon and Cadillac markets it as the Escalade. The Suburban has been produced with quite a few different body styles and platforms across it’s long history. The 1979 is part of the seventh generation which ran from 1973 to 1991. This generation became part of the rounded-line C/K truck series and was deemed the truck-based station wagon. Introduced during this time was the full four-door passenger doors. Trim offerings were the Custom, Sierra Classic, and Sierra Grande. Multiple interior configurations were also available. There were many engine offerings in diesel and gasoline. Did you know that a 1979 GMC Suburban was a big part of the 1980s TV show “MacGyver”?
