The Autocar Company was founded in 1897 as a producer of autos and trucks and then solely trucks after 1899, producing severe-duty Class 7 and 8 working trucks. In 1953, Autocar was purchased by White Motor Company, which was then purchased by Volvo Trucks in 1981, then acquired by GVW Group, LLC in 2001. Autocar now builds four models of heavy-duty, severe-service trucks. Autocar built the very first motor truck for sale, brought many “firsts” to the motor vehicle industry, and is now the oldest surviving vehicle brand in the Western Hemisphere.
