Today’s Classic Truck Finds 09/05/2023

The 1978 Ford F250 is near the end of the sixth generation of Ford’s F-Series trucks, commonly known as the “Dentside”, which was introduced in 1973 and ran until 1979. This generation of F-Series trucks featured a boxy design with distinct “bump-side” body panels on the sides. The 1978 continued with the classic truck styling of its generation, including a bold front grille, dual headlights, and a sturdy rectangular body shape. The F250, classified as a 3/4 ton, offered a higher payload capacity and towing capabilities.

The F250 was available in regular cab, two-door super cab, and four-door crew cab body configurations. In 1978, the trucks received square headlights on higher trim packages. Trim levels offered were the Custom, Ranger, Ranger XLT, and Ranger Lariat. A variety of Straight-6 and V8 engines were also offered.

This also had the “Highboy” package available, which included a higher ground clearance and four-wheel drive. A “Free Wheelin” package was available as well which added colorful exterior graphics and logo.

Ford introduced the well-known slogan “Built Ford Tough” in 1978, celebrated its 75th anniversary, and sold a record 864,000 F-series trucks.
