The Jeep Wagoneer holds a special place in automotive history as it is recognized as one of the pioneers of the modern luxury SUV segment. The Jeep Wagoneer was first introduced by the Kaiser Jeep Corporation in 1963 as a luxury four-wheel-drive station wagon. It quickly gained popularity for its versatility, ruggedness, and comfortable interior, becoming one of the first vehicles to blend off-road capability with upscale features. Beginning in 1970, Kaiser was acquired by AMC which continued to refine and upgrade the model line. That lasted until 1987 when Chrysler bought out AMC and took over the Jeep nameplate.
After AMC acquired the line, the Wagoneer received refinements and upgrades to its interior and exterior. One notable change was the grille change to an egg crate pattern made of plastic. Changes to the engines reduced the noise and vibration issues, making for a more enjoyable ride. Introduced in 1973 was the Quadra-Trac full-time four-wheel-drive system.
The Wagoneer was known for its exceptional off-road capabilities, thanks to its robust four-wheel-drive system and solid construction.
