Today’s Classic Car Finds 02/28/2022

The luxury car Silver Shadow was produced by British car maker Rolls-Royce in two main versions from 1965 to 1980. It was offered in three body styles: the four-door saloon, the two-door saloon (1966), and the two-door convertible (1967). The Silver Shadow line ran from 1965 to 1976 and was the first Rolls to be built on a body/chassis construction that was all one unit. The car offered more passenger and luggage space even after reducing its size that was made possible by this all-in-one construction. Other new features were disc brakes and an independent rear suspension. A notable feature of the new line was the hydraulic self-levelling suspension and dual circuit braking system giving it its exceptional ride quality. The Silver Shadow I line ran from 1965 to 1976. The engine offering for the Silver Shadow was the 6.2L L410 V8 with a 3-speed Turbo Hydromatic 400 automatic transmission. An interesting piece of trivia: The Shadow was going to be named the Mist but was changed because Mist meant “manure” or “crap” in the German language.
